Doctor Basim Dawoud is a Consultant Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon. He is dual-qualified in medicine and dentistry and holds the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery (FRCS OMFS).
His subspecialty interests include temporomandibular joint (TMJ) surgery and associated facial deformity, skin cancer, head and neck oncology and reconstruction, and facial cosmetic surgery. His TMJ practice includes the assessment and management of a broad range of joint disorders, from minimally invasive treatments through to more complex open joint surgery and reconstruction.
Doctor Dawoud completed his specialist Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery training across major regional units in the North West of England, gaining broad experience in facial trauma, orthognathic and facial deformity surgery, TMJ surgery, skin cancer, head and neck cancer and reconstructive surgery. He has undertaken additional specialist training in TMJ surgery, arthroscopy and reconstructive techniques in both the UK and internationally.
Alongside his clinical practice, Mr Dawoud has a strong interest in research, education and service development. He has published widely within Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery and has contributed to national collaborative research, including as a co-applicant on the NIHR-funded MANTRA trial investigating the use of antibiotics following surgery for mandibular fractures. He has also held leadership roles within national research initiatives in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery and has recently been appointed deputy lead for TMJ surgery for the British Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (BAOMS)
He is actively involved in the education and training of medical and dental students, junior doctors and surgical trainees and is an examiner for the Membership of the Faculty of Dental Surgery.
Doctor Dawoud places particular emphasis on careful assessment, clear and honest communication, and shared decision-making. His aim is to provide evidence-based, individualised treatment while ensuring patients have a clear understanding of their condition and the options available to them.
